Anti-Freeze
Many large operators simply keep their equipment running 24 hours a day. However, this is not a practical solution for most locomotive operators and a good reliable anti-freeze is a must.
Automobile standard ethylene glycol anti-freeze is unsuitable for use in a diesel engine, temperature differences, seals and gaskets with differing tolerances etc. all provide a potentially disastrous situation that could mean expensive repairs and frustrating downtime.
Consequently, one of the most demanding needs of locomotive owners has been a safe, dependable anti-freeze material for the cooling systems of locomotive diesel engines. If you don't know how much antifreeze you need, simply provide us with the make and model of your motive power and we will determine the cooling system's capacity.
Water Heaters
To prevent freeze-ups and the consequent likelihood of a cracked engine block, Merrilees can provide and install our own uniquely designed water heaters in your equipment.
